  • HOME! Dec 17th, 2008 // 1898 Comments

Well I am finally home. Tour got so crazy with the cold weather that I couldn’t even write. We played our last show with Steel Train and Dear and the Headlights and I cried… a lot. Then we had some extra shows added on the way back to Washington. We ended up getting stuck in Cheyenne, Wyoming. That was interesting. The bus broke down about three times. We were in Cheyenne for about three days doing nothing. We almost died on the drive home because of all the snow and ice on the freeway. It was an appropriate finale for a long crazy tour.

Now I’m home and I couldn’t be happier to be in Bellingham.

We just played a show in Denver and it was… okay. I was confined in a small space wedged in between my keyboard and the other keyboardists keyboard while holding my guitar and trying to angle my microphone in an awkward direction so it wouldn’t feed back in my monitor. But other than that I had fun.

A band called PersonL is opening for us for a little while and their sound is emotional and moving and I love it. I’ve been playing my music in the greenrooms for people and it’s been good to get back into my own space every now and then. I’m getting sick.

I met the bassist of Deathcab for Cutie which was neat. He was excited that I was from Bellingham. He caught a god amount of out set. Yay.

I saw my close friends and family at our show in Seattle and it was wonderful! Send me some emails on myspace… i miss home.

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve put an entry in here but this tour has just been all over the place. I’ve been getting pretty close with some of my band members and some people from the other bands. Here’s some highlights so far:

When we played in Florida we stayed the drummer’s house of Underoath. He was on tour but his wife was very hospitable. When we first arrived an adorable little black cat struck my fancy. I bent down to pet it and when I stood up again only to find four beautiful doggies awaiting their entry inside. I opened the sliding glass door that lead to the back yard and two huge great danes, a dalmatian and a chihuahua ran in and circled around me. I couldn’t of been happier. I got to spend three days with those guys.

The shows have been going very well for the most part. It’s all coming together. Our show in Austin, Texas was crazy. There were some really devoted fans their screaming all the lyrics as we played and they had decked themselves out in Razia’s Shadow gear. I tried not to act like I wasn’t used to that but the truth of the matter is… I’m not… so I kind of smiled a bit more than usual. It was fun.

Last night we played a show in Hollywood and I met two famous people! The first was Miles Thompson who starred in one of my favorite films, Me and You and Everyone We Know. He happened to be friends with some of the members of steel train. I also met Alia Shakat who plays Maybe in the tv show Arrested Development. She was incredibly nice and I gave her my album. She is dating one of the members of Steel Train so she told me we’d be seeing more each other. It was pretty neat and I feel special.

Thomas just told me I have to go help him set up so I must go for now. But I will try to write mo fo sho. -jp

I just finished my set at the Greene Street Club in NC. I truly felt like a fairy with the beautiful light work and the dry ice angelically floating above me. I believe I’m becoming quite a great dancer seeing that I can’t stand still while we’re playing. There is a clip of one of our shows on You Tube. If you just type in Forgive Durden you will most likely see it. I’m so happy because my dearest cousin (practically sister) is coming to the venue after she finishes up with her school stuff. David’s parents came to the show and his mother told me I looked beautiful. I miss my mommy.

In other news… I was walking around downtown before our show today and I noticed two black cat stuffed animals laying up against a window to some strange business. Then one of them yawned and I realized they weren’t stuffed! Both of them we’re chubby with paws interlocked. One had it’s back leg paws pressed up against the window and I longed to hold them so badly… but i took a short video on my phone instead.

Someone just bought my EP! Yay.

I included a photo of me seasoning a gigantic piece of pizza in New Jersey. Enjoy.

  • Touring Oct 19th, 2008 // 1 Comments

Being away from home and traveling all over and getting close with new people has really been doing a number on me. All of this has been so much of an experience already… I can’t imagine how more evolved my mind and character will most likely be by the time I get home. I’m having a wonderful time.

We’ve played three shows so far and we’re all getting ready for our next one in Maryland. Our first show was in Wisconsin at a small intimate bar. Our second was in Pennsylvania which was incredibly nuts. We opened for the band Good Old War and the old lead singer of The Early November Ace Enders. Last night we played in New Jersey at a place called Maxwell’s. I had such a good time at this show. We met the two bands we’re going to be touring with from now on, Steel Train and Dear in the Headlights. Most of these guys are big bearded men who are very talented and unbelievably friendly. A girl in the show Arrested Development was at the show which was pretty neat. I get to just do my thing up on stage. I dance around and pretty much rock out to this musical stuff. I play keys, sing and guitar. The guitar parts are really fun. I’ve meeting a lot of fans and everyone I’ve come in contact with has just been so nice and basically head over heals for live music. I’m excited for the show tonight. I can’t wait till we play in Seattle so people can come see me.

I miss playing solo a bit. But I’ll be back in no time.

  • Practicing for the Tour Oct 11th, 2008 // 11 Comments

Right now I am staying at the studio/house that various bands record at. Every morning I wake up to my stuffed otter and get ready for practice. I’m playing music with five delightful people who all happen to be male. Thomas is the lead singer and guitarist. Him and his brother are responsible for the album we will be promoting which is called, Razia’s Shadow. A.J. sings and plays guitar as well; he is from Oklahoma. Zach plays keys and he brings comedy to practice. David is from Los Angeles and he plays bass. David is a professional photographer and film maker and it’s crazy. Then Jarom; the soft spoken drummer who is covered in morbid tattoos. I sing the female parts and play guitar and keys on different songs. I’ve had a pretty good time so far but it’s taken me a little while to get comfortable with this kind of music.

The producer who lives at this house has a dog named Racco. Racco and I have fallen in love since I’ve been here. We lay on the ground together and gaze into each others eyes paw in hand. He liked to be spooned by me as well. A couple nights ago I was watching a TV show called Heroes with A.J. and Racco jumped up onto the couch and flopped in my lap. We cuddled for hours. However, the producer took him on a trip and now I don’t think I will see him till I return from tour. I am very sad about his departure.

I was planning to quit smoking cigarettes before this musical experience but so far it hasn’t worked out. I cough a lot and sometimes I feel like an old and dying woman. :(

Thomas purchased a green school bus for touring and couches and bunk beds are in the process of being nailed inside. I’m pretty sure we are going to crash in the snow on the east coast somewhere but no one else seems to care that this might happen. So the only thing I’m worried about is getting really cold.

I miss my dear friends (animals and humans) and my beautiful apartment but I am really looking forward to getting on the road.

    Until next time, jenni
